Sybase adds to RFID software lineup

Sybase Monday announced software designed to help companies incorporate data collected by radio frequency identification devices into business applications.

RFID Enterprise lets customers process RFID data from heterogeneous devices, store the data and work it into multi-system business processes. The intent is to make it easier to develop and deploy RFID-enabled applications, Sybase says.

The suite builds on RFID Anywhere, a product Sybase subsidiary iAnywhere Solutions announced in February to provide connectors and management tools for communicating with different types of RFID devices.

RFID Enterprise bundles a range of data management, integration and analysis components. Database tools automate the loading of RFID data into SQL databases, for example. Integral business-process development tools and integration features are aimed at helping companies design and execute business processes that use RFID data.

On the monitoring front, the software tracks real-time events via Web-based dashboards. In addition, RFID Enterprise includes predefined and ad-hoc RFID reporting tools for making sense of volumes of RFID data.

RFID Enterprise picks up where RFID Anywhere leaves off, says Martyn Mallick, senior product manager for RFID at Sybase. “RFID Anywhere provides a lot of the integration-related capabilities for an RFID deployment — the ability to communicate with different RFID readers, collect RFID data from the readers, do some data aggregation and filtering, and manage the RFID network,” Mallick says. “RFID Enterprise adds process integration features to bring business meaning and value to that data.”

RFID Enterprise is available now. Pricing starts at $20,000 for RFID Enterprise and $30,000 for RFID Anywhere.
