Internet of Things America (IoT America) and Rural Telecommunications of America (RTA) have joined hands to offer IoT-powered wireless, data analytics, and visualisation technologies to customers living and working in rural areas of the country.

The first phase of their collaborative project will see IoT America providing soil monitoring, asset tracking, and tank level monitoring solutions to RTA customers, who live in traditionally underserved non-urban areas.

Both companies will handle every aspect of implementation and delivery of IoT technologies, which will include installation, data analytics, and sensor management.

Pete DeNagy, president of IoT America, said: “Our advanced technology solutions enable customers to achieve increased production, greater yields, lower costs and better management of valuable resources. Whether it is tracking devices or tanks, facility monitoring or anything in between, rural customers now have a cost-effective way to reduce the complexity of evolving into a digitally-enhanced business by utilising the latest in smart technology.”

A recent study by uSwitch revealed that one-third of adult smartphone users residing in rural areas of the UK are still having trouble connecting to 4G network at least once in a week and hence 5G will not be able to solve their connectivity issue. According to the price comparison service, the focus by mobile providers to launch 5G in urban areas means that only 28% of the UK will have coverage by the end of 2019. Just one in seven (14%) consumers plan to upgrade to 5G in the next year, and only 19% believe it will improve their connectivity.
