Amazon in-car delivery expands to Honda and Acura vehicles

Amazon has expanded its unique in-car delivery service to newer vehicle models from Honda and Acura.

No-one likes missing parcel deliveries: they could be important to have that day, and often it means having to go on a jaunt to your local delivery office.

You could have a parcel left on your porch at risk of it being stolen, but Amazon has been looking at other possibilities. One of the potential solutions was a digital key allowing Amazon delivery drivers to let themselves in your home to put the parcel inside, though understandably people were wary of doing such a thing.

Amazon’s idea to have parcels left in the boot of your car has been met with more welcome arms than allowing strangers in your home. Only the boot will open for the delivery driver, but even if they got in the rest of the car for malicious purposes then security features and tracking capabilities of a connected vehicle could be used.

Accessing a vehicle’s boot also means packages could be delivered while you’re parked up at your workplace, for example. The boot of vehicles helps to keep packages out of sight to prevent opportunistic thieves.

The delivery option has been available to Prime subscribers for some time. Supported models include 2015 model year or newer Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac and Volvo vehicles with an active connected car service plan such as OnStar or Volvo On Call.

As of today, those vehicles will be joined by Accord, Insight, Pilot, Passport, and Odyssey vehicles with the HondaLink Remote Package subscription.

Amazon Key In-Car delivery is currently available in 50 cities, including Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. Items requiring a signature for delivery, or weighing more than 50lbs, are not currently eligible for in-car deliveries.
